"disagreement and appreciation are capable of co-existing in the same moment" That sounds good in theory, in a free society in which free speech is encouraged. Go to an "anti-war" demonstration in San Francisco where "free speech" is supposably practiced..as long as it's THEIR free speech. In Berkeley, when Benjamin Netanyahu was going to give a talk, he was shouted down and not allowed to give his viewpoint. When intolerant people don't allow his free speech by disrupting and shouting him down, is that free speech or being rude? In SF, I've witnessed gangs of Jack booted thugs in black garb, with faces covered, openly try to intimidate and attack peaceful demonstators when they try to practice "free speech" Shame on them! ( check out the video taped demo's here > www.protestwarrior.com ) To me, it's simple politness to let a person state their views or to free speech and THEN have a lively discussion. Oh- oh-what I want to know, is are you kind? While this is a GD forum, the thread is named "Look out...politics are comin' in!!!" so maybe we can discuss such things like what really is free speech and the kind. (as long as we throw in some GD reference? -lol) I swear on 4:20 and all good things otherwise, to stay with the muse and music. Deadheads come in all "isims" and religions. Music sooths the savage beast

Not sure about the hell part, but I never realized the connection with Slipknot until I heard snippets prefigured in the first sets's Playing.

Why not. I would say that the blame is mine, but I suspect it's something worse.

The tiger's in a trance but the bees aren't making honey. Here's how they want to sink the ship of fools:

"During World War II, the predecessor of the CIA, the Office of Strategic Services, described how the Germans used the Big Lie: "[They] never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it."

Adios.

last nite i sang along to myself...

Please don't dominate the rap, Jack
If you got nothing new to say
If you please, don't back up the track
This train's got to run today...

...One way or another
This darkness got to give

The 5/15/70 version is the best I've heard so far. It's on Jerry Ballads vol-6

I dig the studio version(as he dodges rotten fruit being hurled by fellow heads)! It may not be the best, but it's a good studio track by GD standards. And Jerry's riff is so cool...

someday I'll have to check out the studio versions of the GD. The only studio I've heard so far is Mars Hotel
(other than some on the SMR CD set)

I like the 1st Garcia solo record and Blues for Allah best, and like many recorded performances. Throwing Stones, for example, has a Garcia solo that's really good and succinctly stated.

i hear ya Spaced, "In The Dark" is the studio album that i have listened to the most, not so much for song selection but for overall energy...GD said that this recording was done live without an audience (i think it was at Marin Veterans) , with a very small amount of after the fact (and more of the same) tweaking

I was looking through the bins at Ameoba the other day, wondering how to use up some credit...

almost bought ANTHEM OF THE SUN, in HD-CD.
Passed on AOXOMOXOA in HD-CD, since not the original spacey mix, then went over to the record section... yep, they had AOXO on vinyl - the original mix, but still I resisted... LIVE DEAD on HD-CD is tempting, but heard it so many times...
may go back for ANTHEM after all.

WORKINGMAN'S might be nice, in HD-CD, but I want to psych out, blast off and hear those two drummers DRUM!

Ever been busted for smilin' on a cloudy day?

if they have Without a Net and you don't - pick that up - great recording and great versions of the songs. Birdsong and Eyes are stellar

I was at Amoeba on Haight today and they have used CDs of Without a Net (the one with the poster and picture CDs is cheaper) and closing of Winterland. Of all the Altheas I like the one on Without a Net best, though I saw some good Dick's Picks and the excellent Vault II show from LA.

Yes we are back to GD but we haven't forgotten about the fascist dog that hasn't been locally fed in years.

[Hey Now]
Lunatic Fringe
We know you're out there
But in these new dark ages
There will still be light

We can hear you coming
(We can hear you coming)
No you're not going to win this time
We can hear the footsteps
(We can hear the footsteps)
Way out along the walkway

But we're on guard this time
Against your final solution
